starship-repair:

tw food, tw colonialism

a-bayani:

i’ve been thinking a lot about food lately

about colonialism and whiteness creating systems where food is just a commodity to be stripped from the earth and left to rot when sales are low but people never stop getting less hungry

and violence and putting into your body what is a product of violence against workers and immigrants and people of color and nonhumans and the earth

and choices and illusionary choices and not having choices

and being disabled and being in so much pain that you’re too nauseous to eat

and having an eating disorder

and experiencing trauma and abuse related to food and food access

and those times when you don’t have money for food or the means to get to the store

and those times when the only place to get food is the convenience store

and knowing that so much of this food is making us sicker

and how to eat when you’re broke and you’re allergic to most of the food you can find

and continuing to eat food that gives you pain and diarrhea and vomiting anyway because it tastes good or it’s cheap and convenient or because you have no other food to eat or because you don’t know it’s making you sick or because it takes a lot of effort to change the way you eat when so much of it is decided by other people

and being vegan and pilipin@ and hating white veganism and wanting to stay connected to your culture and wanting to destroy industrialized agriculture and hating that your culture is a colonized culture and knowing that these non-foods brought by white murderers have been making your people sick and destroying your home for years

and hating that your mom stopped cooking pilipin@ food when she got married to another white guy and that she said we shouldn’t eat rice with our hands around him and assimilation as 1st gen immigrants

this will probably turn into more writings like maybe a little zine abt my personal relationship with food throughout my life and a bunch of recipes and also maybe motivation for me to think more about how to make food a more positive thing in the lives of me and my chosen family and everyone else i share food with but also on a larger scale of food justice and decolonizing food systems and all my other various thoughts about foooooood! and maybe a list of the best things to deep fry or some other fun shit like that.
